Ephesians (HIS) Story: Day 11 – Christ is the Head, We are the Body

Written by Aisha Darwesh

The Word

22 God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church. 23 And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself.

Ephesians 1:22-23 (NLT)

Aisha’s Analysis

Today’s verses show us the dynamic reality that every believer can experience. Verse 22 lays out the framework that God intended for people from the very beginning–a connectedness between God and man that allows us to function in perfect harmony with God. What a beautiful blessing!

“God has put all things under the authority of Christ and has made him head over all things for the benefit of the church” (v. 22 NLT). This shows us that the only way the church can benefit is when we make Christ the head. Operating under the headship of Christ in our lives is paramount to living out the Gospel and experiencing all that God has for us.

Verse 23 goes on to state “And the church is his body; it is made full and complete by Christ, who fills all things everywhere with himself” (v. 23 NLT). While the body is subject to the head, the head is connected to the body. This shows us we can trust God because He is connected to us.

When we submit to the headship and authority of Christ in our lives, we are made full and complete, filled with the fullness of God who fills all in all.

Application

Experiencing the fullness of God requires trust and obedience. Can you honestly say Christ is the head in your life? God will not be satisfied with a robotic subservience or an outward show with inward rebellion. He wants a meaningful decision to follow Him.

If you haven’t already made that decision or have gotten detoured in your walk with God, today is the day to get your life on track. Follow God and don’t look back!

Prayer

Father God, thank You for eternally bonding me to Yourself in Christ. Christ is the head and I, along with my fellow believers, are the body. Help me to not get that twisted. In Jesus’ name, amen.

  1. I like this key point — “God will not be satisfied with a robotic subservience or an outward show with inward rebellion. He wants a meaningful decision to follow Him.”
