Devotional for October 4th, 2018

By Blesson Selvanesan

There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither slave nor free, there is no male and female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. Galatians 3:28.

In Christ, all have their worth and place. In this verse, Paul says male and female are one in Christ. They are worth the same but are not the same. Both sexes are created by God in His image. Both men and women are image bearers of God. We have that intrinsic worth and dignity that no one has the right to take away. It is imperative that we understand that both sexes are unique and different. Women have several leading roles in biblical history, we can read about their influence, power, valor, wisdom, and leadership.

God has given man and women their own domains. Man cannot do everything a woman can and vice-versa. There are very many aspects both can do equally well. Their brains are wired differently, and bodies are built differently. Scientific studies show that women are better at multitasking than men. In general, women are better than men in showing compassion and empathy, better at communicating. We see more women in jobs involving these aspects. Men are better at finishing one task at a time, they excel in jobs requiring motor skills. To say men and women are equal means they are equal in worth and not similar in function.

It is sad and outrageous that so many women had to suffer in the hands of powerful men and yield to these men to make a career. These men have used an image bearer of God as their pawns in violation of God’s command. Women and men need to fight back against these vile men and bring them to justice. It is also important that we address the deeper moral issue inside our own homes, churches, and society. Men need to respect and honor women in their lives as sisters, mothers, and daughters.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, Thanks for creating us and male and female in your image. Help us to reflect your glory in our daily life. Help us to be respectful and admire one another. Let us stand up against those who would demean or defile your creation. Help us to build up one another and not tear each other down. Let’s worship you by respectful of each other.
