The Word
God, You are my God; I eagerly seek You.
I thirst for You;
my body faints for You
in a land that is dry, desolate, and without water.
So I gaze on You in the sanctuary
to see Your strength and Your glory.My lips will glorify You
because Your faithful love is better than life.
So I will praise You as long as I live;
at Your name, I will lift up my hands.
You satisfy me as with rich food;
my mouth will praise You with joyful lips.-Psalm 63:1-5 (HCSB)
Reflection
It’s the half-way point of the fast and it is sometimes the hardest part as our bodies are trying to hold on to what we are comfortable with before it finally lets go. Be it a simple social-media fast or a full water-only fast, we come to a place where we find ourselves at a fork in the road. Take the narrow path. Now is the time to truly thirst after our Savior.
Psalm 63 by King David shows us something about what a fast should be like. We should be so desperate for Jesus that it is the same as being thirsty in a desolate and dry land. And once we gaze on our Lord in His sanctuary, we see the strength that He has, the strength which can hold us up and carry us forward. This is all the food and water we will need.
Now is the time to worship, now is the time to reach out to God for His strength. Thirst after Him.
Application
As you find yourself having a hard-time focusing or staying disciplined, seek after God. Focus on His glory and goodness, and the strength will come through His Holy Spirit. You will feel refreshed. Bless and thank God for who He is. Let your body thirst after Him and eagerly seek Him.
Lift up your hands in worship.
Prayer
Father in heaven, I come eagerly seeking You. All I need is Your strength to get through any difficulty or hardship. Let me learn how to trust in You this week. My body thirsts after You. In the name of Jesus I pray, amen.
