The Word
24 Father, I desire that they also, whom you have given me, may be with me where I am, to see my glory that you have given me because you loved me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father, even though the world does not know you, I know you, and these know that you have sent me. 26 I made known to them your name, and I will continue to make it known, that the love with which you have loved me may be in them, and I in them.”
Aisha’s Analysis
In today’s verses, Jesus alludes to the inheritance He would ultimately win for all those who place their faith in Him. These verses show us Christ’s desire to share His reality with us everyday. Prior to this moment in history, the world could only experience God at a glance. Sin created a deep division, or a chasm, between God and man.
As I meditate on these verses, I see Jesus as the bridge who closes the gap between God and people. Without Him going forth and fulfilling His destiny to bring peace to the world, we could never in our wildest dreams hope to enjoy an intimate relationship with God. However, because Jesus was faithful to obey God’s plan down to the last detail, we can enjoy fellowship with God. What’s more, we don’t have to feel ashamed or condemned about our sin because it is paid for in full. His love covers us completely.
In verse 26, Jesus says that He has made known God’s name to His disciples and He continues to make it known that they might experience the Father’s love. That’s really interesting to think about. This shows us that knowing God is not an isolated occurrence. It is an ongoing experience that will continue throughout our lifetime and on into eternity.
This is what Christ has won for us–an opportunity to know God and experience His love. What was previously unattainable because of sin is now within our grasp, and we need only to reach out and receive Him as our Lord and Savior.
Application
Take a step in the right direction when it comes to your relationship with God. What does that look like? What is one thing you can do today to show God you appreciate Him? It might be singing a worship song or even what you’re doing right this very moment–getting quiet and pondering on the goodness of God. Whatever it may be, be bold and resolute in your expression of love towards God. Make Him a priority and don’t look back!
Prayer
Father God, I just want to thank You for Your great sacrifice. You paid the ultimate price for my salvation. It cost You Your very Own Son. I receive Your sweet and costly gift to the fullest and pray that You would make Yourself known to me more and more as I seek Your Face. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
