John 15:26-27

The Word

26 “But when the Helper comes, whom I will send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceeds from the Father, he will bear witness about me. 27 And you also will bear witness, because you have been with me from the beginning.

Aisha’s Analysis

Today I feel so fortunate that the above verses landed on me to write about because today’s verses talk about the “Helper.” Another translation calls Him the “Divine Encourager.” If ever there was a time we needed help and divine encouragement, it’s now.

Interestingly enough, it’s usually when the world is going through the darkest night, that the Church shines ever more brightly. Why is that? What is it about the followers of Christ that causes us to live in perpetual hope no matter the circumstances?

It’s our utter dependence on the Helper, the Spirit of Truth, straight from the Father, who bears witness with our souls about our Savior. “Bearing witness” is not something we typically say in everyday vernacular, but this term can also mean “proof” or “evidence.” According to the Cambridge Dictionary, if something bears witness to a fact, it proves that it is true.

That is exactly what the Holy Spirit does in our daily lives. He proves that Jesus Christ is the Truth. In turn, we can bear witness of Christ as well. Regardless of where you are at in your walk with God, if you have placed faith in the finished work of Christ Jesus, then you have the Holy Spirit dwelling inside you–which means you have the ability to “bear witness” or prove that Jesus Christ is the way, the truth, and the life.

Application

Today, put some weight on the fact that God gives us the Helper to help us reflect the very nature and character of God. Are you considering the Holy Spirit in the issues you are currently facing? Have you turned to Him for guidance and assistance?

The Holy Spirit is often mystified as a seemingly unreachable, intangible figure of the Godhead. Nothing could be further from the truth. It’s actually the Holy Spirit who whispers the truth to our hearts and walks with us step-by-step throughout the entirety of our lives. He’s the One who reveals Christ to our hearts in order to be saved. He’s the One we need to rely on for victorious Christian living in our relationships, jobs, finances, prayers, etc.

The Holy Spirit adds a freshness to life that keeps us relevant and relatable. Let’s not discount Him a moment longer.

Prayer

Lord, I just want to thank You for sending me the Helper. Holy Spirit, I want to acknowledge how very much I need and value You in my life. I would be totally lost without You. Thank You for walking with me and guiding me into Truth. I trust You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
