The Word

The Word Becomes Flesh

14 And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
15 John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, “This was He of whom I said, ‘He who comes after me [a]is preferred before me, for He was before me.’ ”
16 [b]And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. 18 No one has seen God at any time. The only begotten [c]Son, who is in the bosom of the Father, He has declared Him.

NKJV John 1:14-18

The character of a person is often judged by what they say, how they say it, and then if their actions correspond with those words. When we think of the character of God, we can hold him to these same qualifications. Two days ago in the daily devotional, Ji talked about the words of God from the very beginning. The amazing word of God that created the entire universe! These are powerful words! Truly His words can change nothing into something. Moreover, as the Apostle John writes in these verses, His word, His character, came into a person, a real being! This word changed death into life!

The gospel of John makes it very clear from the start; Jesus is God. Sometimes, it may be tempting to consider Jesus as just a “good teacher” or “prophet.” However, the Bible is very clear on this subject; Jesus is God. He comes from the Father, and He embodies the very character (the very word) of God.

The great news (aka the “good news”) is that Jesus didn’t bring with him more laws, more rules, more religion to follow. He brought to this world through his life, grace and truth! This is the grace and the truth through belief in Jesus that brings love and redemption for everyone who has fallen short with laws, rules, and religion! This is amazing news!

Prayer:

Dear Jesus, Thank You that You are God. Thank You that You have every authority to hold that claim and power. Thank You that You brought grace and truth to the world in desperate need of it. I pray that today we get to know You more through a personal relationship with You, which is why You came as a person! I pray that today Your grace and Your truth become even more real to us. Thank You! In Your Name I pray, Amen.
