The Word: Psalm 8:3-4

3 When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers,

The moon and the stars, which You have ordained,

4 What is man that You are mindful of him,

And the son of man that You visit him?

Proverbs 25:2

2 It is the glory of God to conceal a matter,

But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.

Understanding the intricacy and intentionality of God through science is a beautiful glimpse into God’s glory. God and science are not mutually exclusive. Surely God’s wonder is revealed through science.

I love the scripture from Proverbs 25:2: “It is the glory of God to conceal a matter, But the glory of kings is to search out a matter.”

This scripture implies that God has intentionally concealed various items for the express purpose of allowing the rulers of the earth to search them out. I almost think of a parent who hides Easter eggs with little treats in them for his children and then delights to see them search them out.

Having a curious mind that searches out a matter is a glorious thing according to scripture. There’s nothing sacrilegious about wanting to find answers through various methods including science. Yes, it is true that part of having faith is seeing beyond the natural world, but we must realize that the natural world points to God if we’re looking for Him. He’s the Creator of this world and we see His signature written everywhere.

Application

Is there something stopping you from searching for answers on a particular matter? Are you afraid that your faith will be in conflict with what you discover? If you are placing your faith in God, you have nothing to worry about. God is bigger than science, but He does use science to fulfill His purposes.

Conversely, do you only believe in God if you have a scientific answer to prove His existence? Is science your god, or is God your god? You will never be able to figure out God. God can’t fit into science because He supersedes science. Science will not be able to explain everything, but it can certainly point you in the right direction.

Prayer

Father God, it is a privilege to see Your wonders through the gift of science. When I consider the work of hands, I wonder what is man that you are mindful of him? Yet You do think of us. You know every hair on my head. You are intimately aware of me. Thank You for the answers that You have revealed to me and I trust You with everything else. In Jesus Name, Amen.
