I. The Word: Acts 2:38-39
38 And Peter said to them, “Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. 39 For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom the Lord God calls to himself.
II. Reflection Questions:
1. What did Peter the people would receive if they repent and be baptized?
2. Who did the promise apply to? Acts 2:39
3. What does the promise do for us?

When I began to think about the promise that Peter mentions “we WILL receive when we repent, and get baptized”, I find myself emotional because when I truly decided to repent of my sins, and was baptized, (dying to my old nature and becoming a new creation in Christ Jesus) I received the true meaning of what intimacy with God truly meant. When we think about the Holy Spirit, a lot of us can have red flags and immediately tune out. Maybe we have had some misconceptions or representations of what the Holy Spirit is. However, once we understand WHO the Holy Spirit is, we can truly receive the promise spoken in Acts 2: 38-39.
Promises can be a double edged sword, and must always be kept with caution. I have been hurt many times with broken promises, but have also been revived when promises are kept. The unfortunate thing with man and promises is that man’s promises are always attached with with the possibility of failure and pain. However, Gods promises are always fulfilled and always fulfilled on time.
When I asked God for the promise I was to receive according to the scripture He did not hesitate to give it. He gave me the same spirit that is the very nature of God. Though I did not feel myself receive such promise, I shortly began to see that the promise was fully working in my life. My character began to change, and that self righteous hypocrite became a people loving, Christ walking, world changer!
When I think about the promise according to the scripture, I am reminded that God Loves me so much that he decided to put Himself in my undeserving soul for a deep, and intimate relationship with Him.
Prayer:
Papa thank you revealing yourself to me and calling me to repentance. I pray Holy Spirit that you come and live on the inside of me. Thank you for desiring intimacy with me, and allowing me to know the very nature of who you are. In Jesus name, Amen.
