There are plenty of great preachers and teachers who I trust and respect. They serve as pastors, teachers, professors, scholars and theologians in their respective areas. I can list many reasons why I believe they are great preachers and teachers, and what criteria I use to arrive at this conclusion. There are three important measures I regularly use: 1. Character, 2. Belief, and 3. the Bible.
Character
Does this individual exemplify Christ by faithfully serving God? What others say about them? It is important to know if preachers practice what they preach.
Belief
What individual believe (doctrine) will ultimately impact their preaching and teaching. Be sure to check and see if person has high regards for traditional doctrine of faith.
The Bible
Does individual rightly divide God’s truth (2 Tim. 2:15)? Well-crafted sermon includes careful studies of the Scripture and anchored in God’s Word.
